Kate Middleton's Most Controversial Outfits

6. Her Off-The-Shoulder Dress
One of Kate's favorite looks is her Barbara Casasola off-the-shoulder dress. She has worn it to multiple events over the years, and received little flak for baring her shoulders.

In the outfit pictured, the duchess wore the form fitting dress to the Action on Addiction's gala dinner in June 2019. She also wore the same midi-dress to the Art Fund Museum of the Year prize event at the Natural History Museum in July 2016.

The look was appropriate for the event, because the occasion was rather informal. The gala was held in the London eatery called Spring, which is set in a restored 19th-century drawing room within Somerset House. At the gala, Middleton delivered a speech to those attending while also meeting former addicts that found help through the organization. The rest of the evening was filled with delicious food and mingling.

While some might have dubbed Middleton's bardot dress "daring," it was a demure frock that fit the relatively informal event. Some might feel that wearing the cold shoulder trend is a breech in style protocol simply because it's not a look that royals often wear. But the more that the public sees the bardot neckline, the more acceptable it will eventually become.
