Why it Works: Lana Del Rey Gets Waisted at a Rock Show

Having failed in her mission to singlehandedly destroy Saturday Night Live with her weird, stage-wandering performance, unsinkable songstress Lana Del Rey popped up at the Wiltern to check out Guns N’ Roses’ Takeover Tour in a stomach-baring ensemble that paid tribute to Ol’ Blue Eyes.

The Shirt: First we hear from Vogue that the Notorious B.I.G. tops Del Rey’s personal playlist, and now it seems safe to assume, given the concert attendance and the T-shirt, that both “Paradise City” and “My Way” factor into the beauty’s crooning style.

The artist formerly known as Elizabeth Grant certainly is full of surprises; not the least of which is this cropped tee, which is very Alexa Chung earlier this year. Only on Del Rey, the ‘80s cut has a distinctly porny American Apparel translation. Maybe it’s the sideswept hair? Or the elbows-in-the-air pose? Regardless, it feels a little dirty, in a good way.

The Sneakers: We’ve noticed that Converse is trending in the hip mom direction of late, so we wouldn’t necessarily expect the nascent chanteuse to be sporting these, but the high waist skinny jeans with kickarounds and matching cardigan combination does make for a winningly down-to-earth vibe. Her brazen VIP status, as showcased by the contrast of her all-access pass on her bare stomach is a good reminder she’s a celebrity, lest you get too comfortable and think about approaching.

The Cigs: No, we’re not condoning what we surely all agree is a nasty habit—albeit, a cool one. Kidding, of course. Not cool. But they do explain that mysteriously husky voice.
