Why it Works: Lindsay and Ali Lohan

The wild child who's launched a zillion tabloids unveiled a Sienna Miller circa 2004 look while lunching with sister Ali Lohan recently at LA favorite Joan's on Third, and we couldn't help but notice what a dynamic fashion duo they made. So today you get not one, but two Why It Works breakdowns. Lucky you!

First, to Lindsay:

The Hat: A caramel-colored floppy number perfect for shielding that porcelain skin, Lindsay's hat is ideal for showcasing her auburn mane, which reminds us of a ginger version of Gwyneth's: very earth mother-gone-wealthy socialite.

The Shirt: It's a boho beach cover-up, really, but so girly and summery, we just can't resist. The length is ideal for LiLo—just long enough to pass for a scandilizing minidress.

The Shorts(?): Denim cutoffs we'd wager? We think—no, we believe—they're there, and anything is possible if you believe.

Lindsay's worn-in ankle boots. (Fame/Flynet) The Shoes: Western ankle boots, a west hollywood style staple, also ideal for a swift kick to a looming lensman, should he step out of line.

Meanwhile, Ali couldn't be a more complementary counterpoint to her notorious big sis if she tried.

The Hair: An edgy-goes-sensible Vidal Sasson 'do, Ali's urbane cropped cut belies her youth, and sets her apart in an "I'm the artsy one who moonlights as lead singer in an experimental indie band" kind of way.

The Shirt: Ali's crisp white eyelet shirt feels imported from France. Buttoned up and demure, the gamine effect is set off by cheeky side slits. And, of course, it goes with Lindsay's without feeling matchy matchy.

Low-heel lace-ups, the better to chase after Lindsay with. (Fame/Flynet) The Shorts: A perfectly khaki complement to Ali's top, finished with a preppy classic belt, her shorts are notable for their bonus side zips and hipster-safari style, but also for the fact that you can actually see them.

The Shoes: Snappy yet simple lace-up booties—a modern mainstay in Urban Outfitters land—finished with a low heel, perfect for keeping up with rogue siblings.
