(Getty) To paraphrase Bill Murray's character in What About Bob, there are two kinds of people in this world: Those who love Neil Diamond and those who don’t. Take a Man on the Street poll and you’ll find the same goes for Zooey Deschanel. We at StyleBistro are firmly in the love camp, but maybe that’s because we have a high tolerance for beautiful quirky girls. (It’s gluten that’s the tricky one). Here’s why we’re backing her wardrobe choice for Fox’s All-Star Party in Pasadena.
The Bows There are two. That’s double the usual amount for those of you who never wear bows. For normal humans past the age of four, one bow is usually plenty—sometimes too much. But the laws of ribbonry don’t apply to Zooey, such is the power of her retro girliness. The hair bow says “Hey! I’m up for anything, including an afternoon of rope swinging.” The bow at her waist, meanwhile, asserts that should the need for a backup harmony singer in a 60s girl group arise, ZD is on the case.
The Neckline A softly sloping V, Zooey’s neckline could go the way of a high school senior portrait, should a pearl necklace present itself. Thankfully there’s none in sight, which swings the vibe toward Grace Kelly territory. A lovely place to be. The delicate chain from her purse adds the requisite sparkle.
The Skirt We wouldn’t be surprised to bump into this pattern on the walls of our local signless hotspot, but we’re just as happy to find it here. The juxtaposition of black and white maximalism with the solid black of the rest of the ensemble works a striking contrast.
