Why It Works: Jessica Chastain's Parisian Street Style

We know Jessica can tolerate interminable silences (Tree of Life) and pull off a blonde ‘do (The Help), but this latest ensemble, modeled on the actress’s recent trip to Paris, shows she’s capable of calculated risks outside of the movie theater too. Bravo.

The Hat:
Considering Jessica’s fair complexion—which frankly, makes milk look muddy—her nude wide rimmed fedora risks washing her out. But offset by those sassy tortoise shell cateye frames and her light auburn tresses, the effect is dreamy, like a fashion watercolor.

The Coat:
This jaunty navy riding coat with brass buttons has a regal feel about it, like, she might have to hop on a horse at a moment’s notice and join the royal hunt. She won’t of course, because she’s vegan and undoubtedly thinks it’s cruel, so don’t even get her started on those helpless little foxes. Oh, and because she’s got Fashion Week events to attend.

The Boots:
Vaguely 80s, slouchy and grey—an unexpected but not at all unwelcome addition to the mix. The sort of boots that are too fabulous to leave at home (because what if you need another option come cocktail hour?) but won’t fit in your suitcase so you wear them on the plane and throw on a midnight blue jaguar-print scarf to tie it all together. Well played.

The Ring:
This could be our favorite bit: a chunky turquoise gold-ornamented bauble offset by a fire engine red manicure and that ridiculously porcelain skin we may have already mentioned but are now transfixed by. It’s so flawless it’s practically translucent people! It almost hurts our eyes! Someone give this girl a Dove commercial.
