Why it Works: Dita Von Teese

In London to promote her eponymous new fragrance, the glamourpuss widely considered to be the modern day queen of burlesque stole our hearts with a decidedly Elizabeth Taylor–style get-up. The perfume Dita Von Teese features notes of peonies, bergamot and bourbon pepper; and as you can see here, the siren herself is also flowery and spicy. Allow us to fawn.
Today's vocabulary lesson: Nosegay, a term that, according to Wikipedia, arose in fifteenth-century Middle English and means an ornament that appeals to the nose or nostril. Now you know. The couture detailing on the plunging neckline, the subtle jewel-hued tone-on-tone effect, the structured top, wrapped waist and flowy bottom. It is a thing of beauty.
The Nosegay: A pale pink bouquet of peonies, designed to play off Von Teese's porcelain skin and raven hair, which could make Snow White look blond and tan.
The Lips: A technicolor red, like the red in Pleasantville, with the same hyper-real, never-seen-its-equal effect.
