The MTV VMAs never disappoint when it comes to unforgettable fashion and beauty moments. But behind the dramatic, wacky and jaw-dropping looks, comes a slew of new Hollywood-inspired trends.
Channel your inner-A-lister by incorporating the below five trends into your wardrobe to look instantly cool, sleek and stylish—just like the VMAs red carpet.
We've spotted celebs rocking this midriff baring look all season long—so it was no surprise that Jordin Sparks, Shailene Woodley and Miley Cyrus all donned the trend on the carpet. While Jordin went for a jacket-inspired crop-top, Shailene and Miley stuck to the basics in classic black.
Look at those legs! The red carpet got all kinds of sexy this year with dramatic slits. Case in point: Selena Gomez, Rita Ora and Ellie Goulding. But since you most likely won't be donning a floor-length gown in your everyday life, try the slit trend in something a little more subtle—like a mini-slit in a skirt for the office.
It wouldn't be one of music's biggest nights without a few rocker-girl looks, right?! (I.e, celebs decked out in leather). Jennifer Hudson made her traditionally ladylike pencil skirt instantly downtown-chic with leather fabric. Lady Gaga looked surprisingly tame in her custom Prabal Gurung stunner. And Coca Rocha proved that supermodels can be totally be rock stars with her skinnies and embellished jacket.
Sleek, straight hair
While the VMAs certainly had their fair share of crazy hair moments—ahem, Miley Cyrus— stars like Jennifer Hudson, Selena Gomez and Rita Ora went the sophisticated route with sleek, straight locks. Simple, yet totally chic.
There's nothing classic about Coco Rocha, Jennifer Hudson and Selena Gomez's dramatic eyes. With hints of unexpected colors like midnight blue and metallic navy, these graphic stunners have that futuristic sensibility that puts them at the top of our list for the best beauty moment of the night. (And yes, we're currently trying to re-create this look in our office right now—perfect to wow your man on date night, don't you think?)
