How to Recover From a Festival: Quick Skin Fixes, Sunburn Soothers, and More!

Think Mondays suck? Uh, try Monday after a three-day dance-filled, champagne-popping, late (and I mean late) night-raging weekend in the desert. Your feet kill, your head throbs, your stomach—ugh, let's not even go there. (So. Much. Pizza.) Basically, there's a price to pay for having the best weekend ever. (Life is hard.)

From rejuvenating your skin (booze + no sleep = bags) to soothing sunburn to getting your digestive, uh, stuff back in working order—gross, we know, but if we won't help you, who will?—we reached out to our team of health and beauty experts for their top tips on solving festival-induced dilemmas.

Follow these simple steps, and you'll be on your way to normalcy (or, you know, not wanting to slam your head against your keyboard) in no time.

How to Rejuvenate Your Skin:

When it comes to your complexion, alcohol is public enemy number one.

"Drinking alcohol dehydrates you and your skin, causing your skin to look parched and often more wrinkly," says Dr. Stafford R. Broumand, plastic and cosmetic surgeon. That, plus the inherent dirt and grime that comes with being outdoors all day, and you've got a major skin situation on your, uh, face.

To give your skin a healthy glow then—and degunk all the nasties trapped in your pores—buff your face and neck with an exfoliator, like Joanna Vargas' Exfoliating Mask ($75 at SpaceNK.com). The lactic acid and volcanic ash help draw out impurities, while other radiance-boosting ingredients promote cell turnover and brightening. It's also an anti-inflammatory agent, so puffiness will go poof.

How to Treat a Sunburn:

You danced the day away under the scorching Cali sun, and, oops, forgot to reapply your SPF. What now?

"Cool it down with yogurt and aloe," says Joanna Vargas, celebrity facialist and founder of Joanna Vargas Salon and Skincare Collection. "It will take the burning feeling out right away and help repair the skin faster. Coco and Shea butter at night will also help repair the skin while you sleep."

Try her at-home remedy: Mix 3 tablespoons aloe vera juice with 1 tbs aloe vera gel and 2 drops of rose oil. Apply with a cotton ball to the damaged area for an immediate soothing sensation.

Last but not least, pop an aspirin or ibuprophen to reduce inflammation, says Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank, a cosmetic dermatologist. Bonus points: It'll help your hangover, too! (Assuming you, like us, enjoyed one too many frosty bevs at Coachella...)

How to Soothe Your Stomach (ick):

We're going to go out on a limb here and assume about, oh, 99.7 percent of your diet this past weekend consisted of granola bars, grease—in the form of many so-bad-they're-good noms—and, the obvious, beer. With, of course, Red Bull vodkas interspersed somewhere in between.

"Alcohol is horribly drying for skin and also inhibits the digestive system," said Vargas. "Poor digestion means breakouts, and partying usually includes eating things that can't be digested properly or somehow inhibit the body from its normal functions."

The solution? It's simple, but bears repeating—eat your veggies. Vargas recommends drinking a daily green juice for at least the next week to hydrate you from the inside out. As for that morning cup o' Joe? It's not doing you any favors. Swap it for stomach-soothing tea instead.

Oh, and one final word of advice—from someone who, a week later, is still struggling to be a normal functioning person of society—treat yourself to a deluxe spa pedicure with a foot massage. You won't be sorry.
