How 'Dads' Star Vanessa Lachey Balances Work and Family in Style
You won't believe the go-to wardrobe item the actress and her toddler have in common.
Since transitioning into motherhood almost two years ago, Vanessa Lachey has also switched gears from television host (and occasional guest star on shows such as CSI: NY, How I Met Your Mother and Hawaii 5-0) into lead actress on FOX series Dads. Not only does she get to portray a strong working mother on the show, she balances her new real-life role just as gracefully.
During the series' hiatus, Lachey and her family, who appear on the cover of the June issue of Parents, are temporarily living in New York City, where husband Nick Lachey hosts VH1’s Big Morning Buzz. The actress reveals to the magazine that their first priority is their family and that neither accepts opportunities that separates them by distance.
Conveniently enough, the recent move made the actress available to unveil the new Crocs flagship store last week. Rocking a pair of surprisingly chic flats by the footwear brand (below), Lachey opened up to us about how she maintains her style during this new phase of her life.
Tell us why you wanted to get involved with Crocs. "The first pair of Crocs I ever bought were for my son Camden. Then, I was introduced to the fact that they have a women's line. What's great is that they're versatile; I can wear them on vacation and in the city—whether I'm in Los Angeles or New York—and I love that.
How would you describe your personal style? “It has changed now that I’m a mom. I still want to be stylish, so I find that I do a lot more layering. It used to be just outfits, before my son, and now it’s pieces that I can re-use. I mean, I just got this blazer, and I love it. It can go with so much, whether it’s jeans or a dress [her flowy, floral one at right is by Elizabeth & James]; I can dress it up, I can dress it down. Layering has been my go-to fashion essential while being a working mom on the go."
What are your tips for transitioning an outfit from day-to-night? "For sure, it’s accessories. In the accessory factor, I add shoes. You can have a day outfit like this; I’m all daytime in my Crocs, and then at night, I’ll throw on heels, add a cute clutch, and zhoosh up my jewelry."
