Colbie Caillat Makes the Case for All-Natural Beauty

Still, Colbie Caillat was up to the challenge. For her latest music video, Try, the Grammy-award winner rebelled against unrealistic expectations by removing her perfectly applied make-up and volume-inducing extensions in front of the camera, along with a diverse group of women who followed suit.

(Source: Colbie Caillat)The surprising source of her empowering single is from the opposite gender: “I went into the recording studio with Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds, and I told him that I was getting a lot of pressure to be someone I’m not, both musically and image-wise,” Caillat told Elle. “Although I don’t want to do it, I’m just going to make these people happy. He started laughing and said, 'We’re not going to do that. That’s not you, and that’s ridiculous of them to ask...Let’s write about exactly what they’re asking you to do—to change yourself.’”

With her courageous song, Caillat is blazing the trail for women everywhere to break free from the beauty routines they're practically coerced into. Not only did she go sans make-up, the singer-songwriter neglected to get professionally styled, didn't over-exercise beforehand or even manicure her nails. She even refused Photoshop on the cover of her latest EP, Gypsy Heart.

It’s more for the public appearances as an artist that I feel like I have to be polished, and now I’m excited to stop that and just kind of go as I naturally am more often." –Colbie Caillat
