(Courtesy of PBS) Newsflash: The Dowager Countess is not as obsessed with 'Downton Abbey' as we are.
Maggie Smith's Sunday nights apparently do not include gathering around the TV with her closest girlfriends, drinking tea, and eagerly awaiting the latest episode of Downton Abbey. In a recent interview with 60 Minutes, the Dowager Countess herself admitted that she has never seen an episode of the show!
When asked whether she was proud of the show, she responded hesitantly. "Yes, — well, yes, of course I am," she said. "I was just thinking, pausing, because I haven't actually seen it. I don't sit down and watch it."
There you go, folks. The Dowager Countess of Grantham may be one of the show's most beloved characters with her zingers and one-liners, but she's never seen herself in action.
"I will look at it when it's all over, maybe, because it's frustrating," she shared. "I always see things that I would like to do differently and think 'why in the name of God did I do that?'"
So if Smith isn't as obsessed with Downton Abbey as the rest of us, then why does she do it?
"It's the joy of acting," she responded.
Now that's one classy answer. But then again, did you expect anything less from the Dowager?
