Shopbop to Launch Men's + Moda Operandi's Immediate Gratification



Two great pieces of retail news to report this morning—Shopbop.com, one of our favorite women's e-comm sites (hello, free shipping + returns!) is about to launch a shopping site for guys. According to a report in WWD, Shopbop's parent company, Amazon.com, is keen to up its stakes in the fashion game—the mega-retailer has, in the past few years launched its own flash-sale site, MyHabit.com, acquired Zappos.com, and has vastly expanded its offerings on Amazon.com/fashion.

The new Shopbop for men will feature brands that are the men's equivalent of Shopbop's women's—including Rag & Bone and Alexander Wang—and is slated to launch in late 2013.

"We have been asked for years by our customer and the industry to launch men's," a spokesperson told WWD. "Men's wear is a natural progression."

In other shopping news, Moda Operandi, the super-high-end off-the-runway pre-order trunk-show site has decided to start offering current-season merchandise to shoppers beginning with limited offerings now and rolling out to a full launch by December 7th.

A report in WWD explains that this shift in Moda Operandi's business model is "aimed at capturing customers who won't wait months for delivery of next season's purchases"—hello, that's us, Ms. Instant Gratification. The new Moda Operandi will sell in-season merchandise from luxury brands including J. Mendel, Nancy Gonzalez, and Peter Pilotto. (Net-a-Porter, we love you, but now you have some major competition!)
