There’s no question that eBay can be a veritable goldmine of discounted designer goods. But the reason the site earns top marks as an online shopping destination (see: endless selection) is the same reason it can be so utterly, dauntingly overwhelming. Exhibit A: When we plugged in our search for a “Diane von Furstenberg dress,” nearly 11,000 results come back. #Welp.

But eBay newbies needn’t fret—we’ve got the scoop on navigating the super-site from Michael Phillips Moskowitz, eBay’s chief curator and editorial director. Follow his step-by-step guide to combing through eBay’s treasure trove of designer scores, and you might nab that highly coveted, impossible-to-find Peter Pilotto for Target moto jacket—in your size. Let the bidding wars begin!

1. Get Personal
“Start by personalizing your feed to focus on items that reflect your interests, like specific brands, individual designers, or hard-to-find styles,” says Moskowitz. You’ll need to set up an eBay account first; once you have, simply search the label or item you’re after (i.e. “Isabel Marant” or “Louis Vuitton Epi Leather Noe PM bag”) then click the “follow” button to add that search to your feed. The result: anytime you sign on to eBay, your homepage will display updated results for your specific searches. (Source: eBay.Étoile Isabel Marant Bela Top, $299.99; Louis Vuitton Epi Leather Noe PM Bag $370.96.)2. Play Curator
eBay recently debuted Collections, a Pinterest-like site feature that allows users to gather, organize and share the products on their radar. Moscowitz recommends creating collections of brands that inspire you—say, Miu Miu’s spring line or J. Crew jewelry—as well as more general subjects, such as top spring trends like fierce florals and fringe. (To start a collection, simply click the “Add to Collection” button on the product page of the item you want to categorize.)

3. Follow the Leaders
"Follow curators with similar tastes and interests," suggests Moskowitz. It's a great way to discover carefully edited selections of styles that are right up your alley. Browse collections hand-picked by eBay's all-star Curators (including big names such as Pharrell and Solange Knowles), or look for specific collection themes among the site's user-generated collections

If you’ve found an eBay seller who shares your aesthetic or specializes in the designers you love, save them to your feed (simply click “follow this seller”) to stay up-to-date on their latest offerings. Moskowitz also urges users to “pay particular attention to [sellers] with a lengthy track record and a stellar rating.” After all, there’s no use bidding on that perfect Prada wallet if the seller isn't going to deliver the goods.

5. Widen Your Search
"Get clever and creative with 'related' listings, which you can find directly underneath the search bar," advises Moskowitz. "Related listings can prove a powerful tool, to help you uncover exceptional pieces by similar brands."
