Weekend Beauty Dare: Lemon and Oatmeal Mask

(Source: Thinkstock; Art by Tanya Leigh Washington)Make your morning oatmeal work overtime. Did you know the breakfast essential can do more than deliver fiber and a good dose of grains to your body? It can actually be a good skincare resource too. Gina Mari, an aesthetician in Beverly Hills, shares her recipe for a lemon and oatmeal cleansing facial mask.

Lemon and Oatmeal Facial Mask

Ingredients:
One half cup uncooked rolled oats
Four tablespoons lemon juice

Steps:

Put the oats in a blender to get a finer mixture. Add the lemon juice slowly so you can control the texture of the mask. The mixture should look like a paste when blended. Apply to face (avoiding eyes) and leave on for about ten minutes or until it dries. Remove with warm water and a wash cloth.

Benefits:
This mask not only cleanses skin but is great for those with damaged or problem skin such as acne or dryness. The proteins in oatmeal act as a skin barrier and protect the skin from chemicals and conditions such as eczema and rosacea. It's also a great oil absorber and skin-calmer. Lemon juice is a natural anti-bacterial and is great for lightening and cleansing, which means you can use this mask if you have dark spots, scarring, or acne.
