Nothing looks like it'll work, until you think to yourself, "What would Lupita do?"

Who is more inspiring than the ultra-talented and ridiculously fashionable actress Lupita Nyong'o? In recent months, she, like so many other stylish stars, has taken a liking to monochromatic looks. Pair a top with a matching skirt and you're ready to roll.

In fact, pairing a top—whether it's a tank, a tee, or a blouse—with a skirt in the same shade is a little trick we've been using for years. You look pulled together, slimmed down, and a little metropolitan in two simple steps. Step one: put on a shirt. Step two: pull on a skirt in a matching hue.
