How to Get a Gorgeous Textured Updo Like This One From Tracy Reese
Whether your hair is naturally curly or stick straight, you can achieve a beautiful, sexy textured wave. Master the relaxed bed-head look just like the ladies at the Tracy Reese spring 2014 runway show. Morgan Willhite, Ouidad creative director explained the key to achieving an unkept textured wave is to style your strands according to your hair's own natural tendencies.
If you have naturally textured hair or some form of curl, hydration is critical. "The key to making textured hair look good is having healthy hair," Willhite said. "Be dedicated to doing deep treatments to avoid frizz and dry ends."
Willhite suggests prepping curly, kinky, or super wavy hair with a product like Ouidad's Whipped Curls or Play Curl Voluminzing Styling Spray to ensure the hair is nice and even for styling. She says it's important to apply the product from roots to ends to ensure a clean canvas. This is especially crucial if you want to pull your waves up—like Willhite did with the models at Tracy Reese!—so you don't have loose ends that hang down and look dehydrated.
If you have lightly wavy to straight hair, she recommends using products like Ouidad's Wave Create Sea Spray that allow you to create waves and texture. "You spray the product at the ends, and it reactivates and enhances the hair's curl," Willhite explained. "And there's sea kelp extracts in there to hydrate at the same time so the salt water and sea water don't overly dryout the strands."
Also, for women with sleeker hair, you can fake the wavy 'do with a three-barrel curling iron. Willhite first recommends prepping your hair with Whipped Curls to ensure the hair doesn't become dry and is safe for the heat. Then she says to have fun with your waves! Clamp the curling iron on the hair in a natural, carefree manner. "Just kind of grab hair here and there," she said. "Nothing too perfect!" And finally, top off with a quick tousled with your hands for extra movement!
And if you really want to get this super sexy wave the Tracy Reese way, pull your newly wind-blown tresses into an effortless knot formation, allowing just a few soft pieces to hang down. Like this:
