L-R: Derek Zoolander, the ladies of Sex and the City at fashion week
Given all of the hype around both New York and London Fashion Weeks, we started thinking about movies with great fashion scenes. We've rounded up 10 must-see movies below.
Peruse our picks, and if you haven't yet seen any of our top choices, we suggest making a Red Box trip—immediately. We promise, you won't be dissappointed.
The Devil Wears Prada (2006):
Undoubtedly the most recognized and adored fashion film of the millennial generation—a million girls everywhere (fictional or otherwise) would have killed for the chance to attend Paris Fashion Week with Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep).
Sex and the City (2008):
Being besties with Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) comes with some pretty sweet perks, as Miranda (
Cynthia Nixon) finds out when the girls take her to Fashion Week for the first time. We guess it pays off to have friends in high (heeled) places.
Zoolander (2001):
Chock-full of designer cameos, what-the-what moments, and lots and lots of abs, the parody on the fashion industry—and specifically male models—was really, really, ridiculously good. And that runway walk-off between Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (
Owen Wilson) was, well, something else to say the least.
Prêt-à-Porter (1994):
Meaning "Ready to Wear" in English, the satirical comedy also packs a full house of fashionable stars—Julia Roberts,
Sophia Loren,
Kim Basinger—designers, models, and, oh yeah, features a grand finale of naked women walking the catwalk.
Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead (1991):
What do you do when you find out the fashion company illegally employing you is about to go out of business? Design a clothing line and host a runway show at your childhood home—which you still currently live in—to save the day. Just don't tell mom about it.
Garbage Pail Kids (1987):
Want to watch seven grubby hoodlums wreak havock on a fashion show? Look no further than the
Garbage Pail Kids for a disturbing runway interuption made complete by clothes ripping, barfing, and, uh, farting. Hey, what else did you expect from a gang named after trash cans?
Bruno (2009):Speaking of wreaking havoc, remember when Bruno (
Sacha Baron Cohen) crashed a
real Milan runway show while wearing a suit made of Velcro? Then he "accidentally" tripped through a rolling rack backstage, adhered himself to a mound of clothing, and stumbled onto the catwalk? Yeah...
Head Over Heels (2001):
Poor, poor everyday girl Amanda (
Monica Potter) moves in with a gaggle of models after her ex-BF cheats on her with a, you guessed it, model. We don't feel so bad for her though, considering fashion tycoon Jim (
Freddie Prinze Jr.) totally falls for her in the end—but not before that crazy chase scene at Fashion Week.
Mannequin (1938): We'll admit it, store mannequins have always kind of given us the heebie jeebies. The eerie way they're contorted, their strange proportions, and when they have faces—eek! Equal parts horrific and hilarious, in this old-school flick, a mannequin transforms into a real lady and struts her stuff down the runway.
Meteor Man (1993):
After Jefferson Reed (
Robert Townsend) gets hit by a meteor, he's left with incredible superman strength and the power to instant-knowledge—which comes in the form of absorbing a book's contents with one touch. What happens when he gets his hands on a copy of "Ladies' Runway Modeling Made Easy?" Watch above, and find out.
Which is your absolute favorite? And did your must-see movie runway scene make the list? Let us know in the comments!
