Since introducing line ready-to-wear line of tailored, feminine pieces in 2004, Richard Chai has been heralded as one of the fashion's rising designers. 2008 was a big year for the industry darling—he made it into the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund’s top ten finalists in 2008, designed a budget-friendly capsule collection for Target and launched a menswear line. He has been referenced as one of the "new Asian" influences on modern fashion design and was the 2010 CFDA Men's Wear Designer of the Year. Chai's star-studded clientele includes Kate Hudson, Blake Lively, Sarah Jessica Parker, Christina Ricci.

To the delight of fashionistas around the world, in Spring 2010, Chai launched a wallet-friendly line, Richard Chai Love. On his Spring 2012 collection of Richard Chai love, Chai said it was "eye candy." It was vibrant colors-galore, from the shades of mint green, ripe purple florals and fresh tangerine, all punched up with varying shades of technicolor lipstick.
