Looking for a new nail polish to try, but not sure which brand to trust? We've got your back. The StyleBistro team rounded up and tested the major collections of 2013 and selected these six as our faves. Give 'em a try, and let us know what you think.
Pierre Hardy for Nars ($29 per set at Narscosmetics.com):
What do you get when you combine a major beauty brand and a major footwear designer? Twelve heel-inspired nail lacquers, that's what! In May, Nars teamed up with Pierre Hardy for a collection of six nail polish duos (12 shades in all) inspired by the designer's summer 2012 shoes. As if we weren't ecstatic enough about this pairing, each $29 duo came packaged in mini shoe boxes — with dust bags! Bonus points for cute packaging!
Julep's Jazz Collection ($14 each at Julep.com):
Let's be honest, this year was the year of Gatsby. The glitz and the glamour of the Roaring '20s was present not only on the big screen but in our beauty bags, as well. We adorned our nails with the rich colors of Julep's Jazz Collection, which included colors like Myrtle: a flapper red creme, Zora: a frosted pearl with a touch of pink, and Zelda: a metallic pink champagne, to name a few. Let's just say this nine-shade collection definitely helped us channel our inner Daisy Buchanan!
Butter London's The Royals Collection ($39 for the set at ButterLondon.com):
ICYMI, a certain Duchess across the pond had a baby this year. Back in April, when Kate Middleton's baby bump was, well, just a bump, Butter released a limited-edition opaque aubergine nail color in honor of the soon-to-be little royal. The pretty purple hue, adorably named Pitter Patter, joined two other previously released shades to create The Royals Collection. It's a toss up on which we loved more: No More Waity, Katie, a semi-sheer greige lilac glitter that was first introduced in celebration of Prince William and Kate Middleton's engagement or Lillibet's Jubilee, a silver-lavender metallic that was created in honor of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee tour last year.
Ciaté's Chalkboard Manicure Kit ($25 at Sephora.com):
Ever have those days where you wish you could be a kid again? Yeah, we do too. All. The. Time. Well, with Ciaté's playful chalkboard manicure kit, our inner child was set free! The innovative kit includes a matte black "blackboard" base coat, four chalk pens that wash off with water, and one Mattnificent top coat to seal in your masterpiece doodles.
Deborah Lippmann's Punk Rock Collection ($19 each at LippmannCollection.com):
Edgy matte polishes took center stage this year, and Deborah Lippmann had us totally on board with her trio of spackle-texture, matte-finish lacquers inspired by the punk scene. Not only were we crazy about the shades from her Punk Rock Collection, but we couldn't get over their classic Deborah tongue-in-cheek names: I Wanna Be Sedated, a rich green-yellow; Pretty Vacant, a cool dove gray; and I Fought the Law, a deep navy sparkle.
Sally Hansen's Fuzzy Coat Textured Nail Colors ($6.49 at Target.com)
This textured collection by Sally Hansen not only looked like a party in a bottle, but with eight different shades, there was one for every occasion! When applied, Fuzzy Coats's multi-hued flecks resembled one of our favorite food groups: sprinkles. Yes, these fun texture-filled shades made our digits look just as yummy as a confetti cupcake. Sold.
