After months of rumors that Anna Wintour
was eyeing an ambassador gig, the editrix finally announced some major news about her future with Conde Nast and, of course, Vogue
. (Drumroll, please.) She's staying — and she got a big, fat promotion, too!
Wintour will officially be appointed Artistic Director of the publishing powerhouse, reports
the New York Times
As the artistic director, a title created specially for her, Wintour will take over some of the responsibilities belonging to Conde's chairman, Si Newhouse Jr. (At 85-years-old, Newhouse recently started scaling back his involvement with the company.)
“Si Newhouse leaves a void, inevitably,” said Conde CEO Charles Townsend. “Anna, without even having to think twice about it, is the most qualified person to pick up that torch and carry it into the future.” He continued: "I would go to great distances to avoid losing Anna, particularly in the prime of her career.

Don't fret over Vogue
just yet, though. In additon to the new role — which she describes as "almost like being a one-person consulting firm" — she's still the fashion mag's EIC, as well as the Editorial Director of Teen Vogue
. She's just there to help other Conde editors with branding advice and editorial direction.
And from the sounds of it, that's not really anything new to her. "I advise all sorts of people in the outside world, and really, I see this as an extension of what I am doing, but on a broader scale," she said.
Well, a lot's in store over there at 4 Times Square, that's for certain. Cheers to you, Anna — and Vogue
readers everywhere! She's staying for the long-haul.
