Kate Middleton Kicks Off Royal Tour In Red

(Source: Chris Jackson/Getty Images AsiaPac)Kate Middleton went for head-to-toe cherry red as the Royal Family arrived in Wellington, New Zealand, today to kick off a three-week tour of NZ and Australia. And you know what that means in terms of royal style: three weeks = many, many chic royal outfits that we can't wait to admire, dissect, and be inspired by.

The sartorial debut of the couple's down-under jaunt didn't disappoint. The Duchess of Cambridge stepped off the plane (with Prince George nestled in her arms) clad head-to-toe in a cheerful, on-trend shade of bright crimson. Middleton's ensemble was actually a dress and double-breasted coat combo by Catherine Walker, who over time has proven to be one of the Duchess's favorite designers. The elegant, streamlined look was complemented by a jaunty sort of hat we rarely see these days: the '60s-inspired pillbox hat (in case you were wondering, Middleton's is by upscale milliner Gina Foster).

In terms of appropriating Middleton's outfit for our own purposes, the monochromatic red dress, coat, and hat idea is a great way to make a bright statement for spring, be it at the office, brunch, or garden party. And so begins this Royal Tour.
