For Kerry Washington, getting ready for the red carpet isn't just about throwing on a pretty dress. Instead, she takes a more analytical approach to finding just the right look. "I think about what an event is and how I want to feel when I'm there. I think about how a dress makes me feel," she said. "Because the last thing I want to feel when I'm on the red carpet or at a function is uncomfortable, distracted or awkward."
Case in point, she explained how she chose the strapless red Zuhair Murad gown she wore to the 2011 Emmy Awards. "I knew because I was excited about Scandal and because it was going to be my first sort of major appearance in the TV world, I wanted to feel sexy and glamorous, so I looked at dresses that helped me to feel sexy and glamorous."
She went on to illustrate how it's the event that dictates her look. "For the Glamour Women of the Year Awards I was giving an award to the young woman (Esraa Abdel Fattah) who started the Facebook revolution that was part of the Arab Spring movement in Egypt so I wanted to wear something that was respectful and elegant."
We appreciate the stylish celeb's common sense advice. Seeing how she is routinely on best dressed lists, we'll try harder to follow her words of wisdom: "At the end the day it's really about what you're going to feel good in."
