Anne Hathaway's Glamorous Chignon

Before Anne Hathaway's extreme crop, she wore this amazing ultra-polished chignon with romantic loose tendrils to the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. This formal-looking 'do may take a little practice to recreate, but the effort is well worth the trouble. This style is perfect for prom, a wedding or any other event that requires something super-sophisticated.

I've included step-by-step instructions on how to duplicate Anne's 'do along with a video found on youtube that shows an alternate way of creating a similar style.

1. Begin with straight hair. To create smooth tresses, blow-drying hair with a large round brush will usually create the desired sleekness.

2. Part hair down the center and section out bangs or half-inch pieces on either side of the part.

3. Backcomb hair thoroughly through the crown and the back of the head. You'll need to create a lot of texture and volume in these areas. It'll add to the effect of the finished style and help it stay in place.

4. Run a brush lightly over the top of layer of hair to smooth it out while still maintaining as much volume as possible.

5. Draw hair back into a low ponytail and secure it loosely with a hair elastic.

6. Smooth the ponytail and starting at the ends, begin to roll the hair under until you reach the base of the ponytail.

7. Fan out the sides of the rolled ponytail and pin the chignon in place by inserting u-shaped hair pins around the perimeter.

8. Smooth out the loose tendrils on either side of the part and if desired, add a bit of bend to the ends with a curling iron.

9. Complete the look by misting with hairspray.
