Christina Applegate's slightly messy loose side bun has become a favorite look of mine. After duplicating several versions of this 'do I can whip out the style in a matter of minutes. And not only is it super easy, it's causal, yet office-appropriate and will work for a variety of hair lengths and textures.

Below are seven simple steps for recreating Christina's loose side bun along with an easy-to-follow video found on youtube showing how to style a similar look.

1. Section out bangs and a tendril or two around the face.

2. Finger comb tresses and if hair has a finer texture or if you'd like more volume, backcomb through the crown.

3. Gather hair in a loose ponytail along the back hairline behind one ear.

4. Backcomb the ponytail if you'd like a messier texture. It'll also help the style to stay in place once you've pinned it.

5. Loosely twist the ponytail, wind it around its base and tuck ends into the hair elastic.

6. Insert bobby pins or u-shaped hair pins around the perimeter of the bun. Or, I love Goody Spin Pins—most of the time I'll insert two of them and depending on the amount of backcombing, I won't need any additional pins.

7. Style bangs if you've got 'em, smooth out loose tresses around the face and complete the look with a spritz of hairspray.
