Braid of the Day: How to DIY Taylor Swift's Awards Show Ponytail

The American Music Awards are right around the corner—Will you be tuning in on Sunday? To get you pumped for the sure-to-be outrageous event (Nicki Minaj's butt-speaker robot suit, anyone?) we're honoring last year's big winner, the adorable Taylor Swift, for today's braid of the day!
To accept her pile of awards—she took home the most of the night, including Artist of the Year!—the country sweetheart wore a glistening strapless gown with a half-braided ponytail pulled elegantly to the side. And not to be forgotten, she of course sported her signature "surprise" face:
TSwift's unfinished figure-8 braid looks tricky, but it's super-simple to recreate! Instead of pulling hair under—as you would with a typical plait—braid the strands in a figure-8 motion, winding pieces under-over-under-over as you go. This awesome tutorial, here, illustrates the process.
Once you have about 3-4 braided sections, take 2-3 bobby pins and slide them up into the braid vertically from the back—this will help keep the unfinished ends in tact.
Then give the plaited pony a heavy spritz of extra-strength hairspray. Warren-Tricomi's Style Superhold Hairspray ($20 at Soap.com) is amazing for updos because it keeps intricate styles locked in place without leaving a sticky residue behind. Pin any leftover stray hairs—like side bangs—to the side to finish off the look!
