A Retrospective: The Many Hair Looks of Britney Spears

(Source: Getty, Instagram)In honor of the princess of pop dyeing her hair rich red, we're taking a look back at Britney Spears's hair transformation through the years. From school-girl pigtails to platinum blonde crimped waves and everything in between, join us on a journey through Spears's most memorable hair moments. (Note: We're not including the brief shaving-of-the-head incident because some of us here at StyleBistro are still in denial that actually happened.)

1999: The Early Years
In an age where boy bands were everything, Spears stood out as the girl-next-door. Come on, how could you not love those pigtails?

Later that same year, Brit totally made crimped hair a thing in the video for "You Drive Me Crazy."

Only Britney could make long hair, a bump-it and a space suit look good. Just saying.

The singer got very deep in the video for "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" video. More importantly, she took a turn for the very, very blonde.

Early 2000s Britney may have owned the largest number of hats, like, ever. From leather page boys to fedoras, there was no hat that went unworn.

Brit's hair was often covered by a fedora during this time, but when it wasn't, it was bleached blonde and filled with extensions.

And this is why

2008: The Time of The Circus
It might not have been her best album, but Circus brought some seriously great curls for the star.

Her cover of Lucky magazine raised plenty of eyebrows as to whether or not Brit was sporting a wig or was just suffering from some messed up photoshop. Either way, this look wasn't our fave.

This dark shade of chocolate gave the appearance of a fresher, more mature Britney. Perhaps finally people would just leave the girl alone. Or not.

And just as quickly as she went dark, she went light. Really, really light.

Brit was only a blonde a few months during her first year of residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas before opting for a much richer cocoa shade.

Only two weeks after debuting a brunette shade, Spears went and surprised us all with a sexy shade of auburn. And naturally, she's still favoring her signature messy bun. Some things never change.
(Source: FameFlynet Pictures)Throughout the years, Spears has toyed with some interesting lengths (ahem, extensions anyone?), creative crimps, and too many hats to count. Yet she's actually stuck within the realm of normal hair color. From blonde to brown to red, she's actually kept it pretty simple. So let us know, which color do you prefer for the singer?
