Cameron Diaz and Mila Kunis sport sweet ponytails
Cameron Diaz and Mila Kunis were each spotted sporting super cute ponytails this week. Cameron wore hers on the red carpet at a premiere of her new movie Knight and Day; Mila wore hers on the set her upcoming flick, Friends with Benefits.

A ponytail is the most versatile of updos. It works for your casual errand-running outfits as well as hot red carpet looks. The best thing about ponytail is that it's ridiculously simple to achieve. But of course there are also suble variations to keep your pony fresh:

  • Side parted: Part hair down the middle or side then tie back. If you want, you can do like Cameron and make it slightly messy by running fingers through—to create ridges—before tying.

  • High: Brush hair back then secure at the crown of the head. Experiment with different heights to find the best for your face shape.

  • Low: Secure hair at the nape of the neck. This style can be worn tight and smooth for a polished look, or loose and messy for a bohemian feel.

  • Poufy: Separate hair into two sections—top and bottom. Secure bottom layer with a hair tie. Separate top layer into two sections, front and back. Spritz back layer with hairspray and tease with a teasing comb. Pull front layer over and combine top and bottom layers into a ponytail.

  • Slicked-back: Apply a small amount of gel or styling spray to damp hair, focusing on the top 5-inches of hair. Using a small-toothed comb, brush hair back and secure into a ponytail. The end result should be smooth and sleek.

Have a terrific hair day!
