Ruby Rose's old 'do
Australian model and VJ
Ruby Rose has an armload of tattoos and piercing green eyes, but at Melbourne Fashion Week it was hard to keep your eyes off her hair. She went from a super short, blond-streaked pixie one day, to a sharp jet-black bob with piecey bangs the next.
Ruby is clearly wearing a wig—or has mutant speed-growing hair—but either way, she looks fantastic. If you've been thinking about temporarily switching your look by donning a wig, here are a few tips:
- Learn about synthetic vs. real hair wigs. There are many options for the type of hair used for wigs. Synthetic can be a lot more affordable, but it also tends to look fake and cannot be styled like real hair can. Do your research and physically compare wigs in stores.
- Hide your real hair. The key to making a wig look real is by making sure your natural hair is properly hidden. Invest in a wig cap or use a pair of panty hose to keep it in place, make sure to smooth out any lumps.
- Try on multiple wigs. Even if you have a look in mind, you never know what will end up suiting you best. Experiment different cuts and colors before buying.
- Don't be afraid to trim. Use a pair of barber scissors, or go to a salon, to customize the wig to best suit you.
- Secure the wig to your head. Use bobby pins to attach the wig to your real hair so it doesn't shift or blow away.
