Twilight's
Ashley Greene has natural chocolate tresses, but this summer she's decided to add some honey to her 'do. At the Super Saturday event in New York, Ashley showed off fresh highlights that gave her look a fun, summery glow.
Before you head for highlights at the nearest salon, brush up on hair color 101—this more complicated than you might think. Then, present your stylist with a game plan for your new look. here's the skinny:
- Foil. This method uses foil to separate the segments of hair that are being lightened. Several shades of color can be layered in the same procedure and there's more control over the placement of color throughout the head.
- Hand painting. In this technique, dye is hand-painted onto hair by a trained professional. Balayage, a French technique, creates natural-looking highlights which grow out without an obvious root line.
- Chunking. Highlights are applied, generally in brighter shades, to larger chunks of hair. This is great for a dramatic, statement-making look.
- Lowlighting. This is the opposite of highlighting, but uses similar techniques. Hair is darkened rather than lightened. This is great for people who are trying to tone down their color or those that want to add color without a drastic change.
Have a fantastic hair day!
