Big Spring Trend: Black and White Gingham

(Source: ImaxTree; L-R: Derek Lam, Oscar de la Renta, Balmain)Gingham has long been synonymous with a sort of let’s-throw-a-picnic retro Americana vibe. But on the Spring 2014 runways, designers such as Derek Lam and Balmain gave the classic pattern a modern makeover. Rendered in sleek black and white, the checkers feel bold, fresh, and urbane—the perfect transitional print for our early spring wardrobes.

The chic plaid has popped up on celebrities including Olivia Palermo, who rocked a pair of cropped gingham pants with some killer cat-eye sunnies.

If you want to take a chance on black-and-white checkers, there are plenty of wallet-friendly styles at retailers such as Topshop and Nasty Gal. Paired with simple separates and a masculine oxford shoe, the print looks sleeker then ever.
