Big Spring Trend: Culottes

(Source: ImaxTree; Proenza Schouler, Emporio Armani, Mulberry)Until recently, we invariably associated culottes with a particular middle school music teacher who owned quite the collection. Not anymore: Thanks to a strong showing on the runways the last few seasons, the skirt-pant hybrid is making a cool comeback. For spring, Proenza Schouler, Emporio Armani and Mulberry were among a bevvy of designers who sent out the billowy, cropped silouhette.

Leelee Sobieski, here in Christian Dior, was one of the first celebs to step out in the trend. See how she balances her voluminous culottes with delicate pumps? Smart move.

A simple half-tucked tee, a silky shell or a fitted crop top all play well with the pants. As for footwear, leave the flats for the school teachers and go for a statement platform or pretty pump instead.
