(Getty Images) Yes, we just used
Georgina Chapman and J.C. Penney in the same sentence. As part of the department store's shop-in-shops program (other participants: Joe Fresh and Jonathan Adler), the
Marchesa designer is opening 500 Pearl by Georgina Chapman boutiques on March 1st,
WWD
reports.
The 250-to-300-square-foot, chandelier-adorned spaces, will be stocked with prom-ready dresses ranging in price from $50 to $250. "It's got a slightly different attitude [from Marchesa], a younger attitude, but it all comes from me. It retains the same sensibility and design aesthetic," Chapman told
WWD. "I wanted it be fun...I really wanted to reach a larger demographic and larger audience."
The collection includes tulle and organza dresses, as well as lace shorts with matching jackets. But don't expect Georgina to actually
wear the pieces. When asked about her Oscars gown, the formalwear designer, who is eight months pregnant, replied, "I had to cut something special."
What, no Pearl by Georgina Chapman? That
really would have brought this partnership full circle.
