Diesel Boss Buys Marni

Diesel boss Renzo Rosso—whose fashion portfolio already includes labels such as Maison Martin Margiela and Viktor & Rolf as well as licensed manufacturing of DSquared2 and Just Cavalli—has acquired a stake in Italian luxury label Marni.

The partnership comes months after Marni creative director Consuelo Castiglioni and the company's CEO Gianni Castiglioni publicized their search for a "financial partner to support the company's growth and retail development," reports WWD.

How will the acquisition change Marni as we know it? It's unclear. Rosso is widely credited as a top-notch marketer—under his direction, the Maison Martin Margiela niche brand has expanded leaps and bounds over the last decade, with even MM6 opening standalone stores earlier this year.

Reuters reports that Rosso intends to "relaunch the bohemian-chic fashion house [Marni] on foreign markets" and this move is seen as a step towards the incremental consolidation of the Italian luxury industry.
