Last year, The Row's opulent crocodile backpack garnered plenty of attention in the press for its $35,000 price tag, and then, amazingly, sold out. Perhaps inspired by its success, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen just released another collection of the bags, upping the cost to $55,000.
So why the $20,000 price jump? Well, the packs are part of a partnership with artist Damien Hirst and luxury retailer Just One Eye, who describes the collab as "a fascinating study in contrasts."
Or, in other words, a backpack is just a backpack, but a backpack covered in pills—a reference to Hirst's "The Void"—is art.
Not convinced? Just watch these bad boys twirl through space to what sounds like a keyboard backbeat.
Tell us, what would you put in a $55,000 backpack? A unicorn-skin wallet filled with Amex black cards? A flask of Baileys and the latest issue of Cat Fancy? Nothing, because you sold all of your worldly possessions to buy a $55,000 backpack? Let us know in the comments!
