JCPenney Issues Awkward Apology Video, Wants to Be Friends Again

(JCPenney)

JCPenney wants you back...and they're not afraid to do a little groveling.

In their new, nostalgia-heavy, 30-second ad, the retailer formally apologizes to customers for everything ex-C.E.O. Ron Johnson did to shake things up. (Like instituting a no-sale policy! And ignoring e-commerce!)

Mothers embrace their (softly-lit) children and couples hold hands as a narrator reads:

"It's no secret: Recently JCPenney changed. Some changes you liked. Some you didn't. But what matters with mistakes is what we learn. We learned a very simple thing, to listen to you, to hear what you need to make your life more beautiful. Come back to JC Penney. We heard you. Now, we'd love to see you."

Maybe, instead, JCPenney should apologize to the thousands of employees who lost their jobs because of the retailer's financial woes?
