Earlier this fall, an amazing documentary called
Versailles '73 opened in theaters in New York. It chronicled a historic fashion event hosted at Versailles, outside of Paris, in 1973, where five great American designers—
Halston,
Bill Blass,
Anne Klein,
Oscar de la Renta, and
Stephen Burrows—were pitted agained five great French designers—
Yves Saint Laurent,
Pierre Cardin, Emanuel
Ungaro, Hubert de
Givenchy, and Christian
Dior—in what was the biggest (and possibly most historically important) fashion walk-off of all time (you can
read more about it here).
This month (and next!) the film will travel to other cities—namely Los Angeles (October 26th to November 1st), Atlanta (October 29th to October 31st) and Chicago (November 7th and 8th, 16th to 19th)—as well as screen at Toronto Fashion Week in Canada on October 20th.
