Yesterday, Kohl's announced Peter Som will be the next designer to join their DesigNation limited-edition collection! Som will be the fourth designer to join the special collection, which has previously featured Narciso Rodriguez, Derek Lam, and Catherine Malandrino (set to launch this September).
After his runway show today during NYFW, we joined Som at the American Express VIP Cardmember Lounge for a quick Q&A, where he shared that his inspo for his upcoming Kohl's collection was taken straight from his recent trip to St. Barths. The self-proclaimed beach bum—who said that the surfer-girl also look inspired his spring 2014 runway collection—said his Kohl's line will combine his own aesthetic with a little St. Barths twist. (And if it's anything like the looks from his gorgeous runway collection, featured below, count us in!)

"They're just great, great pieces," he said of his collection, which contains everything from maxi dresses to motorcycle jackets. "[The collection has] everything that I love: print, pattern, texture. It's great. I wasn't limited at all!"
The best part of his collab? The most expensive piece is only $88!
"That's always been the one thing I've wanted to do: be more accessible," he said. "I think there are so many women who do want to wear great fashion, and [now] it is available at every price point these days."
And though Som's new line will give women a variety of affordable options to chose from, we just had to ask: "What is the one essential piece every woman should have in her closet?"
"You have to have that dress," he said. "That dress that you zip up, and you're like, you just know. Literally you zip it up, and you're like 'all is good with the world.'"
Well, with a price tag of $88, all is good, indeed!
Som's collection for Kohl's is set to come out spring 2014. And while we don't have a sneak peek just yet, you can get in on all his surfer-girl goodness from NYFW, right here:
