Here's That Coco Chanel Film Starring Keira Knightley

(Chanel)

Professional Wearer of Period Costumes Keira Knightley is at it again. The actress stars as Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel in the fashion house's latest short film, Once Upon a Time. (Chanel shared a little teaser last week, but now we finally get to see the whole thing!)

While many actresses have played the iconic designer — like Audrey Tautou and Shirley MacLaine, to name a few — Knightley is the first one to be directed by Karl Lagerfeld.

The film takes place in 1913 Deauville at the first Chanel boutique — which was recreated at Lagerfeld's request — but the historical accuracy ends there. As WWD reports, Knightley, along with the film's other stars — models Stella Tennant, Saskia De Brauw, and Lindsey Wixson— were told to improvise their lines.

Lagerfeld calls his directing method "invented reality," and we hope it's invented, because according the video, Coco was kiiiiind of a Mean Girl.

She basically sits inside her store, making fun of everyone in town, being like "don't even try to shop here." Except for the models! She fawns over the models. It is all very much like that Rodeo Drive scene in Pretty Woman.
