(NBC News) Kerry Taylor Auctions just sold ten of
Princess Diana's most iconic dresses, and, collectively, they fetched $1.2 million. The offerings were
very '80s, in the best way possible — think butt bows, crushed velvet, teal sequins, and major shoulder pads.
(Kerry Taylor Auctions) But the star of the lot was the royal's midnight blue velvet off-the-shoulder Victor Edelstein gown, which she wore during a night of disco dancing with
John Travolta during the 1985 State Dinner at the White House.
According to
The Daily Beast, the design, which fetched $360,0000, was bought by a British man as "a surprise to cheer up his wife." If a
princess dress doesn't put her in a better mood, we don't know
what will.
