Models at Fashion Week by Tanya Leigh WashingtonLocation: Fashion Week
Tribe: The Models
Our last anthropological study is of the Fashion Week models who graze about the Lincoln Center, towering over bystanders with their long limbs and striking bone structure. You can spot them dashing from show to show or lingering backstage (cell phone in hand) waiting to get dolled-up by the hair and makeup artists.
Defining markings: When in their natural habitat, the alien-esque svelte figures prefer to keep things simple by wearing basic tees and skin-tight leggings. Tough leather jackets are also commonly seen, along with statement shoes like those hidden-wedge sneakers, sexy stilettos or even combat boots. Long waist-reaching hair or super-short edgy cuts are typical of this tribe, as is dramatic post-show makeup.
