Norway Bans Fur From Oslo Fashion Week

There will be absolutely no fur at the Fall 2011 Oslo Fashion Week in February. With the support of over 200 fashion industry insiders this fur ban is the first one of it's kind. The supporters list includes big opinion makers like the Norwegian Elle, Norwegian Cosmopolitan and designers Leila Hafzi, Thomas Ryen of Undorn, and John Erling Vinnem of JohnnyLove.

This fur ban doesn't mean designers can't work with fur. They can still freely use fur in their collection without sending those looks down the Oslo Fashion Week runway and present them to buyers at trade shows.

Although historic and a great first step, it is doubtful the fur ban in Olso Fashion Week will inspire others to do the same. Not with Vogue, Jean-Paul Gaultier and many others swearing by their love and devotion to fur. After all, Karl Lagerfeld started using fake fur for Chanel collections and that didn't exactly catch on.
