How to: Carl Kapp’s wigged black cropped hairdos
Complementing the sharp tailoring and contrasting the feminine colours, the hair styling at Carl Kapp’s spring / summer 2012 Australian fashion week (MBFWA) show took the collection to another new level of edgy, sharp and androgynous.
Under the hair direction of hair maestro, Alan White from ghd, each model exhibited a fringed black blunt wig, inspired by Madonna’s avatar in her music video for Rain. But the reverence also branched out to Rooney Marra’s look from The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo with a hint of late-80s Helmut Newton era.
Kapp said, “The collection pieces are like a car crash, imagine twisted steel, burnt tires. It’s very strong. The hair for this collection takes the perspective of a tough Amazonian woman, especially with the wedged hair look”.
If the early 90s inspire you, or if you’re a Helmut Newton devotee, then follow the how-to steps below. The procedure is a bit lengthy, but the end result is worth the work that goes into it.
Do keep in mind; you’d either need a pair of scissors to chop your hair in a razor-sharp blunt (risk alert!) or perhaps a trip to the wig store.
