The modern mod
If you had to single out one aspect of 1960s fashion that’s at the forefront of the current revival, it would be graphic black and white prints. Not just anything black and white, but the kind that generate a distinctly mod mood. Stylist Linda Schillemans doesn’t just dip her toe into the trend with this shoot – photographed by Natasja Noordervliet and unambiguously titled She’s a Mod – she jumps into it wholeheartedly. Black and white stripes clash with harlequin prints and racer checks. The Beatles and Bob Dylan find continued relevance on fan t-shirts paired perfectly with leathers and half-up bouffant hair as styled by Yvon Moll.
It’s not marked by faithfulness to an era, though, in so much as by contemporary reworking: Schillemans adds touch metal and spiked accents to blend eras and compliment the current day.
