Orange is in this season. Why? Because Prada said so. And Prabal Gurung. And Giambattista Valli. And tons of other designers who decided to send head to toe creations of this bold and beautiful color down their runway’s, simultaneously proclaiming “this color is the only thing that matters, now!” But what was so amazing about this consensus was beyond the fact that color was orange, or that the designs were beautiful, but because these weren’t dresses or jumpsuits. It wasn’t one article of clothing that happened to be the same color, because after all, you can find tons of those in any store in any city. But these were skirts and blouses, pants and jackets, these were sets!
In a time where mixing and matching contrasting colors and prints rule, this brought it back to the simplicity of wearing suits. Back in the days when Pretty Woman hit the silver screen, and Julia Roberts was seen in matching skirt suits and accenting hats that would make Queen Elizabeth blush, matching suits were thee thing. But we lost that along the way. Spring 2011 brought it back to the simple, but still very stylish, days of the suit. They modernized it, gave it a millennium flair and injected youth into it.
But this color not only popular with two-piece pants and skirt suits, but for nails and lips as well, I mean, this particular shade that could be almost fatally unflattering on most skin tones has made one of the most aggressive come up’s we’ve seen in the past decade or so. I mean, sure floral’s has been the most consistent Spring trend, but seriously… Floral’s? In Spring? Groundbreaking… I mean, not that orange in Spring is so groundbreaking, but such an aggressive resurgence? You almost have no choice but to sit up and take notice! And even participate. Beauty and fashion retailers, high-end and low-end alike, are all getting in on this trend, so getting your dibs for Spring should be a no-brainer.
