With several celebs recently hitting the runway wearing versions of the finger wave, it looks like this retro style might be making a comeback.
Ashley Greene's 'do can be recreated by making Marcel waves using a curling iron or by doing a wet set and sitting under a bonnet hair dryer. For instructions on Marcel waves, check out
Emma's Stone's Modern Marcel. To try an old school wet set begin by applying a product like KeraCare Setting Lotion to wet hair. Next, make a deep side part and using a hard rubber comb sweep the hair back, away from the face, making a 'c' formation. To start making the waves, place your index finger firmly at the bottom of the 'c' shape and put the teeth of the comb against the scalp about one inch below your finger. Keeping your finger in position, slide the comb back about one inch. This motion should create a backwards 'c'. The next step is to create another forward 'c' using the same technique of holding tresses with the index finger, only this time slide the comb forward one inch. Alternate making forward and backward 'c's until you reach the back hairline. To keep waves in place, slide clips into the middle each 'c'. All the hair below this point can be sectioned into two-inch pieces and set on plastic rollers. After your set is complete, hang out under the bonnet dryer until hair is completely dry. To finish, remove the clips and rollers, brush the set out with a natural bristle brush and mist with hairspray.
