Kate Spade's beloved brand can be described in three words: vibrant, colorful, and whimsical. And thanks to the eye-catching hues, polka-dot prints, and feminine silhouettes incorporated into her collections, you can spot any of her aesthetically pleasing designs from a mile away.

The designer sadly passed away at the age of 55 in June of 2018, but her legacy will live on forever in the form of her statement-making, eclectic pieces. Spade launched her eponymous brand in 1993, when she was an accessories editor at Mademoiselle, and debuted a six piece collection that showcased the label we know and love today.

Following the success of the collection, the designer opened her first shop in New York in 1996. That same year the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awarded Spade the New Fashion Talent in Accessories prize. From there, her line grew with her signature purses becoming a go-to accessory for women around the world.

By 1998, the brand was awarded another title, Best Accessory Designer of the Year, by the CFDA and opened stores in Boston, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. With a feature in Vogue and a celebrity clientele like Julia Roberts and Gwyneth Paltrow, the company showed no signs of slowing down.

In 2006, Neiman Marcus Group sold Kate Spade to Liz Claiborne, with the designer and her husband leaving the company a year later. With Deborah Lloyd as the new creative director, the brand launched apparel, jewelry, and their sister label, Kate Spade Saturday.

Today, the company still remains a staple for all types of women — including A-list celebrities. Everyone from royals such as Kate Middleton to Hollywood sweethearts like Mandy Moore have been spotted wearing the designer's looks.
