(Courtesy Photo)Selena Gomez is making her big return to television this summer! The ex-Disney star has just released the commercial for her eponymous new fragrance, upsetting some of her fans with the ad's violet-hued, PG-rated imagery.
In the 30-second spot, a ballgown-clad Selena seductively writhes around in a tank of purple water, poutily running her hands through her hair and glaring at the camera.
It's painfully tame, but still a shade too sultry for the fans who remember her as Wizards of Waverly Place's sexless heroine, Alex Russo. It's not even that they disapprove, exactly — some of them just think she's too adorable to pull it off. As one Gomez fan commented, "Ah Selena looks so gorgeous, but for some reason every time I see her face, I still think 'ALEX RUSSO!!' and Selena has such a babyface too! Her face just looks too young for the commercial!"
These fans have misplaced their disappointment, though: They should really be offended by the gigantic purple bottle Selena chose to showcase her signature scent. Though Gomez explained that the receptacle was designed to look like the swirly dress she wears in the ad, she failed to provide suitable justification for the flimsy-looking kissy lips that spring up out of the top. What's maybe more offensive: Gomez fans are paying $55 for that tackiness. But hey, at least it's original.
