According to an
article in
WWD,
The Walt Disney Co. and
Barneys New York are teaming up for holidays to host a 3D light show in which the entire Disney gang—Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, even Goofy!—will be transformed into runway supermodels.
The beloved cartoon stars won't be strutting their stuff in just anything for the virtual catwalk though—this is, after all, Barneys we're talking about. Mickey will be dressed in
Balenciaga, Minnie in
Lanvin, Goofy in
Balmain, Daisy in
Dolce & Gabbana, Cruella de Vil in
Rick Owens, Princess Tiana in
Proenza Schouler, and Snow White in
Nina Ricci.
The illustration above, at left, is just little a sneak peek of the crew's
new fashion-forward look, which obviously involved one heck of a diet.
"The standard Minnie Mouse will not look so good in a Lanvin dress," Barneys creative director Dennis Freedman told
WWD. "There was a real moment of silence, because these characters don’t change. I said, ‘If we’re going to make this work, we have to have a 5-foot-11 Minnie,’ and they agreed. When you see Goofy, Minnie and Mickey, they are runway models."
We're obsessed with the idea of Minnie rocking a Lanvin gown—considering she's already
making an appearance at London Fashion Week and all. But we kind of wish they would have left the cast as their cuddly plump selves for the occasion.
What do you think about the Disney characters' new makeovers? Did Barneys take it too far with the slimmed-down silhouettes? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
