David Bowie fans, book your tickets to London for next spring! From March 23 through July 28, 2013, the V&A, in partnership with Gucci, will mount an unprecedented exhibition dedicated to the post-punk glam rock superstar—the first international retrospective of its scope about the pop culture and fashion icon.
"David Bowie is a true icon, more relevant to popular culture now than ever," said V&A Director Martin Roth. "His radical innovations across music, theatre, fashion, and style still resound today in design and visual culture and he continues to inspire artists and designers throughout the world."
The exhibition will feature more than 300 pieces from the David Bowie Archives—including handwritten lyrics, Bowie's famous costumes, photos, films, music videos, and instruments.
We're especially excited about the 60 stage costumes that will be on display—including the Ziggy Stadust bodysuits, which were designed by Freddie Burretti; the looks from the 1973 Aladdin Sane tour; and the late-90s Union Jack coat Bowie wore on the cover of the Earthling album cover—a coat designed by the late, great Alexander McQueen.
