(Getty) The primetime Emmy nominations were announced this morning and HBO's
Girls racked up an impressive five Emmy nods including one for outstanding comedy series.
While the cast of characters are dressed in pretty typical 20-something-year-old New York City-kid looks, we wanted to find out—can these ladies dress just as well in real life? Let's take a look.
Lena Dunham
(Getty)Lena Dunham's character on the show sticks to Urban Outfitters-style dresses and skirts—laid back and semi-hipster that's just-this-side of mainstream. But off-screen, this writer/actor/producer/director definitely knows how to dress up.
We adored how she paired an emerald green asymmetrical dress with pink pumps (center) at the Met Gala earlier this year. We also loved the black gown with gold sparkles she wore for the
Girls premiere (left) and the more subdued 50s housewife-inspired white dress she chose for the Tribeca Film Festival (right).
Allison Williams

Girls character Marni is the buttoned-up, tight-light lipped, conservative character on the show. In real life, she keeps it together, but her clothes pop with personality.
The strapless column dress she wore at the Met Ball, left, was a bold choice in magenta. When Girls premiered, she chose a contrasting black-and-white strapless number that looked cool, calm, collected, yet totally sophisticated. And the ruffled gown she wore to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's "Hot Pink Party" would definitely fall way outside Marni's comfort zone—but it looks fantastic on Williams.
Jemima Kirke

Jemima Kirke, is the free-wheeling Boho character in Girls—check out one of her usual on-screen looks, center. In real life, Kirke stays true to her character's wild child with ruched green velvet (left) at the
Girls premiere, and a leopard-print fur coat (right) at the New York premiere of
Tiny Furniture.
Zosia Mamet
(via Getty)Zosia Mamet's character on the show, Shoshanna, wears Juicy Couture zip-ups and girly skirts. Off set, Mamet prefers basic silhouettes like slouchy tee and jeans (left) for a night out at the Cinema Society, a drop-waist navy cocktail dress (center) at the Girls premiere, and a retro-printed shift (right) at the New York premiere of
Savages.
